TRANSFORMATION OF LIGHT

Immersive video art installation, 2026

This video art work was created by me as part of the art laboratory for prostorcurators, Belgrade (curators Artur Kiriushin, Kirill Yeltso)

This work became an experimental step within my larger video art project Transformation, a long-term exploration of personal and collective metamorphosis.

Using water, video, and text, I aimed to guide visitors into a reflective state where transformation could be felt not as an idea, but as a lived experience.

In my immersive video installation Transformation of Light, I explore inner metamorphosis guiding viewers through a liminal experience shaped by my personal journey of emigration and change.
This formed the basis of the concept and image of the installation, through which I tried to convey not only meanings but also sensations. Imagine that you find yourself in some timeless space at the bottom of a dark well. Complete darkness and dark water around you. The dark water is only your reflection that gives nothing else – no movement, no sense of life. Everything is frozen here. It is unclear how long you have been here in this form. But it has already become a new, familiar form of non-existence. But at one moment, a ray of light gets into the well. What do you feel at this moment – does this light irritate you? Or makes you happy? Do you need this light at all? The light gets into your reflection in the dark water and gives birth to new sensations – a feeling of longing for a past that cannot be returned and for a future that has not yet come. It irritates, yet somehow awakens new feelings. But you’re at the bottom of the well, and you can’t reach that light. The solution is always within you—and so you plunge headlong into the depths of the dark water—for only then can you reach the ray of light reflected in it. And at this moment of a new form of baptism, you die and are born again. It’s a moment of transformation.
The video installation uses video footage from the teaser for my “Transformation” movie (Under Development).  Starring: Dorian, DoP: Pavel Smirnov.
